DHC is a veteran in Japanese skincare. The brand has been around since 1972 and it has several iconic products such as the Deep Cleansing Oil, a cleansing product that sent waves of hypes through the beauty and skincare industry and is now a staple for many, including myself. I have used four of the brand's products and all of them are from the Olive Originals line. It's suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants, has antibacterial, moisturizing, and anti-aging properties.
I purchased a set of four travel-size products in May last year. I used the heavily other than the olive virgin oil because it was such a love at first application that I used half of it and I'm still saving the other half to use as a spa treatment when my skin is screaming for help.
My Skin Type
I have 22-year-old dry skin with prominent pores on the cheeks and redness in a few areas such as chin and around the nose. I have lines on my forehead. My skin stays pretty clear except around my period. Sometimes I get clusters of small bumps on my cheeks when I've been stressed for prolonged periods of time.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
Oil cleansing is one of the mildest ways to remove makeup and dirt and cleanse your face. When I say "mild" I don't describe it’s effectiveness but how gentle it is to your skin and your moisture barrier. Oil cleansers are powerful in melting the makeup off as well as sebum and dirt. At the same time, an oil cleanser nourishes your skin and doesn't strip it of the natural oils that need to be on your skin and protect it from pollution and maintain its health.
I started using the Deep Cleansing Oil because of my dry skin and I continue to use it. The product melts my makeup fast including waterproof mascara and eyeliner. I love that I don't have to rub my sensitive eyes to get the makeup off. The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is also great a removing my sunscreen at the end of the day. No tight feeling is left on my skin. My face feels fresh and soft. You can apply the oil to cotton rounds and press gently to your eyelids, warming up the product. I prefer to dispense some in my palm and cleanse that way or using my Vanity Planet facial brush.
Olive and Honey Mild Soap
Based on olive virgin oil and honey, the Mild Soap is intended for double cleansing as the second step, after melting makeup off with the Deep Cleansing Oil. I don't wear face makeup such as foundation and concealer and I rarely get clogged pores, but I do wear a lot of sunscreen. I don't double cleanse often because I haven't noticed my skin needing it. As far as the Mild Soap goes, I was apprehensive to use it a first, because the look of a bar of soap worried me. After using it, I discovered that it is very gentle, doesn’t produce a lot of bubbles because it doesn't contain many astringents, which is good, and it left my skin feeling supple and soft instead of dried out, stripped, and tight. I took the Mild Soap as my only cleanse while I was on a beach vacation and wore a ton of sunscreen. It worked perfectly and I could even use the package it came in to store it in my toiletries bag.
DHC Mild Lotion
This is a hydrating toner suitable for all skin types. It has a thin runny consistency like a normal toner, so don't let the lotion part confuse you. Just like all the other products, this ne doesn't contain perfume either, which I love about this set of DHC skincare. I used the toner on its own several times after washing my face with just water to see exactly how hydrating it is and how long the hydration lasts. I like doing that with every product I buy to find out exactly how efficient it is. The toner plumped up my skin and provided hydration for about 4 hours and even added a bit of glow. Some toners leave a residue on my skin after sinking in but the DHC Mild Lotion does not.
DHC Olive Virgin Oil
This right here is the star of the show for me. Looking at the tiny sample size I thought I would run out before forming an opinion and it's small size even made me not want to use it even though I adore oils. And I definitely adore this one! This little bottle proved itself from the first application. I applied it in the evening and used very few products to see how it will hold up n its own. Waking up, my skin was plump, supple, glowy, and so, so soft and bouncy. I had to will myself to stop touching my face.
I've used marula, rose hip seed oil, argan oil, and squalene. I fell in love hard with the Olive Virgin Oil. If I could only keep one and I had the full size I would keep that and be perfectly content with my choice. I will be repurchasing it once I use up some of my other oils. My skin loves the Olive Virgin Oil and I'm more than happy to provide!
This oil has a thicker consistency. It doesn't slide in my palm like my other oils do. Instead of pressing it into the skin I spread it around with my fingertips like a cream and then press it in. It absorbs well and slightly faster than my other oils.
As I mentioned briefly, olive oil strengthens the skin barrier which is essential for good skin health. It is rich in antioxidants which contributes to its anti-aging properties. Olive oil makes the skin more bouncy, improving elasticity and diminishing fine lines.
This oil has been working beautifully for my skin and I notice a difference I texture and suppleness when I don't use it in my PM routine.
